Slow Streets for the 40th Ward

CDOT will be evaluating Leland Avenue from Western to Virginia (the river) for possible “slow street” designation — this would be an extension of the pilot they launched east of Western, running along the border of the 40th and 47th Wards.

“Slow streets” allow for pedestrian and bike use across the entire right-of-way.

  • barricades narrowing (not blocking) entrance to street
  • temp. signage w/ shared-with-pedestrian/bikes designation
  • curbside parking
  • local traffic continues to have access, at reduced speeds

Are there other residential streets in the Ward that you think would be good candidates for the “Slow Street?” Please reach out to your local neighborhood org – https://40thward.org/neighborhood-groups/

The 40th Ward office has already sent out emails to those groups asking for recommendations.
