Statement from the Alderman regarding 3/16/20 Bowmanville Shooting

17 March 2020

STATEMENT FROM THE ALDERMAN

Dear Neighbors,

Our Ward was shocked and saddened by the fatal shooting last night of a 15 year-old Ward resident near the 2000 block of West Farragut in the Bowmanville neighborhood.

Ward office staff was on-scene immediately following the shooting on the evening of the 16th, and has remained in contact with Chicago Police Department detectives since. Police are investigating, and we will continue to keep the Ward informed as they confirm information for public release. At this time we do not have confirmed details regarding the shooter or possible motives. Neighbors with information who have not already spoken with police can reach out to the Area North detectives at 773-744-8621 or cpdtip.com.

While we are fortunate to have one of the safest Wards in the City of Chicago, this is a painful reminder that gun violence is all too present in all our communities, and knows no political or municipal boundaries. Our office remains deeply committed to addressing both the immediate safety of our residents and the root causes of violence in our society.

Andre Vasquez

Alderman, 40th Ward
