40th Ward is offering internship opportunities for students!
Organization Name & Description: The 40th Ward Office of Alderman Andre Vasquez works with constituents in the 40th Ward to address their concerns and issues by connecting them with resources to solve any problems that they face. In addition, the Alderman and staff work to promote economic development, provide services to the community, and create public policy at the ward and city level that improves the lives of community members. 40th Ward interns have an opportunity to learn about local government while collaborating with staff on various projects and contributing to the community in a meaningful way. Office Location: 5620 N. Western Avenue in Chicago, Illinois
40th Ward – City of Chicago Deputy Aide Summer Internship
Description: This individual works with our Chief of Staff to facilitate ward office initiatives while addressing constituent services requests. This is a paid position that runs in early June 2022 through approximately August 15, 2022.
Essential Duties:
- Report directly to the Chief of Staff.
- Assist the Director of Constituent Services and Community Building with constituent requests through phone calls, emails, and in-person.
- Assist the Director of Infrastructure with matters related to ward infrastructure and construction projects, and zoning.
- Perform 40th Ward surveys, or spending time “in the field” to assess reported issues and to monitor current projects and conditions.
- Take part in meetings with constituents, businesses, nonprofits, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Chief of Staff on office communications (press releases, social media, etc).
- Conduct research analysis around ward office legislative priorities.

Qualifications:
- City of Chicago resident.
- Must be a student in good academic standing currently enrolled in an accredited college, university offering an Associate, Baccalaureate or graduate degree program
- Very strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Able to hold conversations on sensitive, critical matters while being empathetic, respectful, and honest.
- Multilingual applicants are strongly encouraged.
- Resourceful, responsive, and service-minded. Willing to go the extra mile and seek creative solutions.
- Ability to work some evenings and maintain a flexible schedule for community meetings.
- Strong time management, organization skills, managing digital records, & documenting follow up.
Compensation:
- Compensation: $15 an hour. Position is full time; the 35 hour work week may include evenings and/or weekends. The 40th Ward office has one paid summer internship position.

40th Ward Deputy Aide
Description: This individual works with the 40th Ward’s Constituent Services, Infrastructure, and Community Building team to address constituent services requests. They help respond to a wide range of residents’ concerns including sanitation, construction, and quality of life matters; identifying potential solutions; and serving as a proactive advocate for residents.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain data pertaining to constituent outreach with particular focus on:
- Streets and Sanitation – street sweeping, snow removal, trash/recycling, pest control, etc.
- Lighting – smart lighting along with street and alley lights
- Department of Water Management – sewers, water in basement/backyard, etc.
- Parking – permits, exemptions, taxis, disabled permits, speed humps
- Work with office volunteers to help manage day-to-day office operations.
- Answer constituent requests through phone calls and emails.
- Perform 40th Ward surveys, or spending time “in the field” to assess reported issues and to monitor current projects and conditions.
- Assist with event preparation and on-site event operations.
- Other related tasks as assigned.

- This is an unpaid internship position.
- 15-25 hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks.
