Individual Resources

These are some of the city and state programs coming online or already in place that can help individuals with health concerns, or those affected by job/income loss due to COVID-19:

  • Swedish Hospital’s Coronavirus Help Line (773-907-7700) is staffed with clinicians who can help screen symptoms and answer questions on what to do next. Interpretive services are available to assist in most languages.
  • Heartland Health Centers – Healthcare for uninsured and undocumented folks. Call (773-751-7800).


Howard Brown Health Clark at 6500 N Clark (and other locations) offer walk up COVID testing. There is no charge for uninsured people. More information available at

Hamdard Healthcare offers testing Monday- Friday from 1pm to 3pm (1542 W Devon). Patients are required to first have a telehealth appointment. Free for the uninsured. Call (773) 465-4600 for more information.

Prism Lab offers FREE outdoor COVID testing, located at 2322 W Peterson Avenue. To make an appointment, visit Prism Health Lab’s website or call 800-325-1812. Flu vaccinations are also available.

Physicians Immediate Care, located at 5961 N. Lincoln Ave, is offering same-day Covid-19 testing and results for individuals exposed to the Covid-19 virus. For more information, and to schedule appointments please visit

Swedish Hospital offers COVID testing – To start your COVID-19 screening, call 773-907-7700. A Swedish Hospital clinical expert will complete an assessment and may recommend COVID-19 testing.  An appointment time is required and will be assigned to you following your phone assessment. Swedish Hospital’s testing tent is open to all community members with one or more COVID-19 related symptoms, with or without insurance. You do not need to have a physician’s order.

  • Metropolitan Tenants Organization – Call Our Tenants Rights Hotline: 773-292-4988, open Monday-Friday, 1-5pm
  • Legal Aid Chicago – Provides free legal services for a wide range of issues impacting low-income communities, elderly, people with disabilities, veterans, and homeowners
  • Lawyers’ Committee for Better HousingTenant Advocacy Project (TAP) provides pre-eviction assistance to renters whose utilities have been illegally shut off, have been locked out of their homes by the landlord, or experienced other serious life-threatening issues.
  • Rentervention is a free resource for Chicago renters facing housing issues. It is a joint project of the Lawyers’ Committee for Better Housing , Illinois Legal Aid Online , the Lawyers Trust Fund of Illinois , and other advocates dedicated to helping Chicago tenants.tenants can go to or text “hi” to 866-7RENTER to start a conversation with Renny, Rentervention’s bot. Renny can help with evictions, utility shutoffs, problems with security deposits, and issues with housing conditions.
  • One Northside – Community organization offering services including housing advocacy and consultation on housing issues. Call their triage line for assistance at 773-657-8700.
  • Preservation Compact Resources for Tenants – Collection of information and direct financial resource links by The Preservation Compact, including emergency homelessness prevention resources and contacts.
  • COVID HELP (Housing and Economic Loss Prevention) is a statewide initiative to provide no-cost legal guidance and representation to Illinoisans experiencing common legal problems due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Illinois residents can access free legal assistance 24/7 at COVID HELP and its virtual legal assistants are maintained by CARPLS Legal Aid, which has run Cook County’s legal aid hotline since 1993.   • COVID-19 Mortgage Relief – Chicago Volunteer Legal Services ( Homeowners can check if their loan is federally-backed and fill out form letters to send to their lender. Dedicated hotline and email for homeowners who have trouble navigating the internet: 312-332-8785;
  • Utility Relief and Re-connection – The City has received reports of an uptick in residents being disconnected from their gas and/or electric service. If residents are facing disconnection from their electricity or gas service and are experiencing financial hardship OR are eligible for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), you can call either utility to prevent disconnection or have your utilities reconnected. If you need additional help to navigate the process, please contact the Citizens Utility Board at 1-800-669-5556 between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additional details on the benefits provided through the protections can be found here.

  • The City of Chicago, in partnership with Heartland Alliance, has launched a Financial Navigator program to help residents manage the financial impact of COVID-19. Financial Navigators provide one-on-one telephone assistance – at no cost– navigating critical financial issues and making referrals to other social services and resources.   • Tips for Managing Student Loans – Learn about public service loan forgiveness and other programs to help you manage and reduce your student debt burden.
  • Arts for Illinois – Provides financial assistance to artists, artisans and cultural organizations impacted by COVID-19.
  • Chicago Artists’ Relief Fund – Grassroots, GoFundMe-based relief payments for Chicago-based artists. Application by webform.
  • One Fair Wage – Providing cash assistance to restaurant workers, car service drivers, delivery workers, personal service workers and more who need the money they aren’t getting to survive.
