The 1st Pothole Patrol of 2025 is Complete!

Map of each reported pothole in the 40th Ward

The 40th Ward office has completed our first Pothole Patrol of 2025! Find out more about Pothole Patrol, and some of the streets we’re prioritizing for resurfacing this year, below.

What is Pothole Patrol?

Each year, Ald. Vasquez drives every street in the ward with members of our team to report every single pothole that we see. Once we have mapped all the streets in the ward, we compile those reports into a map, and send it to the Department of Transportation (CDOT) so that they can patch them more efficiently.

You can view our interactive map to see all the potholes we’ve reported this year. The blue markers stand for pothole requests that the city has reported complete, and the red markers stand for requests that are still outstanding.

Residential Street Resurfacing

As part of Pothole Patrol, we also take note of any residential streets that need to be resurfaced, so we can better prioritize which of them to repair through our Menu funds.

Last year, we authorized the following street resurfacing projects, which will be constructed this year:

  • Argyle St from Rockwell to California
  • Rockwell Ave from Lawrence to Ainslie
  • Berwyn Ave from Washtenaw to Lincoln
  • Rockwell Ave from Lunt to Coyle

These streets are in addition to the larger resurfacing projects on Ashland, Ravenswood, and Damen Avenue, as well as Pratt Boulevard between Western and Sheridan, and Rosehill Avenue between Ravenswood and Ashland.

Earlier this year, we also used the data we collected during Pothole Patrol––along with requests we’ve heard from neighbors––to select 15 other streets and submit them to CDOT for possible repair. CDOT is currently surveying these streets to determine the estimated cost to resurface them, and whether there is any conflicting construction work in the area. Once we receive the results of those surveys, we will select our final choices for street resurfacing projects for the remainder of 2025.
