Ravenswood, Damen, and Bryn Mawr Resurfacing Projects to Begin this Week!

map of street resurfacing

Last week, we were informed by the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) that the following major street resurfacing projects will begin the week of May 19th:

  • Ravenswood Avenue: The scope of this project is on N. Ravenswood Avenue from Wilson to Peterson, and will begin on the northside of the project. It will include ADA sidewalk improvements, curb and gutter removal and replacement as needed, speed humps, curb extensions, and a full street resurfacing.
  • Damen Avenue: This is the second phase of the Damen Avenue resurfacing, and will cover N. Damen Avenue from Farragut to Bryn Mawr Avenue, as well as raised intersections on Winona and Winnemac. It will include ADA sidewalk improvements, curb and gutter removal and replacement as needed, raised crosswalks, and a full street resurfacing.
  • Bryn Mawr Avenue: As part of the Damen Avenue resurfacing, W. Bryn Mawr Avenue from Damen to Ravenswood will also be resurfaced! It will include ADA sidewalk improvements, curb and gutter removal and replacement as needed, and a full street resurfacing.

These projects are scheduled to begin construction on May 22nd, weather permitting, and will last through August.

While streets will not be closed (with the exceptions of the intersections of Damen/Winnemac and Damen/Winona when the raised intersections are installed, which will happen once the school year concludes), contractors will need to close traffic lanes as needed to allow for construction, so please allow for additional time on your commute! There will also be periodic sidewalk closures as needed, though contractors are required to maintain ADA-accessible pathways at all times. Contractors will also install No Parking signs as needed during work hours (typically 7am-4pm).

We’re looking forward to safer, smoother streets, but we know this construction work is always a headache for neighbors, so we apologize for the disruption! Our team is checking in with crews on a weekly basis to ensure that this project remains on track and that crews are minimizing disruption as much as possible, and will include weekly updates in our newsletter.

If any issues come up during construction, you can contact our office at 40thward.org/contact. Thank you so much for your patience!
