On February 24, 2025 from 6-7:30 PM, Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society is hosting Surviving Summer; Living Through War in Ukraine at Budlong Woods Library, 5630 North Lincoln Avenue. Join us for a special event to mark the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Eastern Ukraine.
Travel vicariously with[ Fulbright Scholar](https://fulbrightscholars.org/grant/civil-society-post-communist-ukraine-pre-communist-hong-kong) and [North Park University ](https://www.northpark.edu/faculty-staff-directory/lida-nedilsky/)Professor, Lida Nedilsky on her trip across Ukraine last July. Through photos and stories, you will meet Vera the Vet, Stubborn Little Roman, Maiia the Master Pickler, and Veronika Wise Beyond Her Years. These glimpses into the lives she encountered show how Eastern Ukrainians survived last summer while living through war.

On Tuesday, February 25th at 6pm, join the Committee on Immigrant and Refugee Rights for a virtual briefing to learn about the impact of the administration’s executive actions on Chicago’s immigrant and refugee communities. Immigration attorneys from National Immigrant Justice Center and University of Chicago Illinois will discuss some of the most recent executive orders and their implementation, so we can be better communicate their impact to our communities. The event will include an evening of laughter with German comedian Paco Erhard as he returns to the DANK Haus for his fresh and insightful comedy show. On March 31st, from 6:00pm-7:00pm, the Chopping Block and 40th Ward Environmental Board are hosting a free induction cooking demo! With induction cooking on the rise, now is the perfect time to get familiar and comfortable with this powerful and efficient method of cooking. Spend an hour with a chef as they demo two recipes that utilize different heat and cooking times, so you can see first hand how precisely and evenly an induction burner operates. This event will also discuss all of the energy and safety benefits and cover compatible cookware. You’ll learn just how easy it is to prepare your favorite recipes using an induction burner. There will also be a raffle, with prizes including induction cooktops and compatible pans!
