Over a decade ago, neighbors in the West Edgewater neighborhood expressed a desire to redevelop the Edgewater Medical Center into a public park. Many acquisition and development milestones later, Park 599 is officially under construction! The park will occupy roughly 33% of the original Edgewater Hospital site, and will include green space, pavers and sidewalks, tables and seating, native pollinator plants, and trees.

Scope & Design

West Edgewater Green (Park 599)

Located just east of Rosehill Cemetery at 1623 W. Edgewater, the park (currently designated as Park 599) will provide a new green space for Chicago’s residents, visitors, and wildlife.

Project Goals

  • Create a public greenspace for residents of West Edgewater and beyond to enjoy
  • Improve sustainability with the addition of mature trees and native plants
  • Provide space for events and community gatherings
