Update From Alderman Vasquez 3/13/20

Neighbors,

In preparation for what has been declared a national emergency, we are taking all necessary steps to ensure continuity of government and to protect our neighbors. As we learn about the ways the COVID-19 pandemic will affect our daily lives, and as we make adjustments based on those changes, our office is committed to keeping residents updated with the latest information. My office has been in regular contact with the Mayor’s Office and additional City Departments regarding COVID-19 developments. Please see below for additional information.

Changes at the 40th Ward Office
Starting Monday, March 16, we are closing the ward office until further notice. Our staff will be working remotely and answering the phones during our regular work hours (Monday 10am-8pm, Tuesday-Friday 10am-5pm). Please email info@40thward.org or call the office (773) 654-1867 for all requests.

Chicago Public Schools
Governor Pritzker has closed all schools from March 17-March 30. CPS schools that are assigned as polling locations will remain open to voters on Tuesday. Our office will share information regarding CPS contingency plans to assist students and families during the closure period.

Election
The Board of Elections has extended early voting hours. The 40th Ward early voting location is Budlong Woods Library, 5630 N Lincoln, (312) 742-9590. The new hours are below:

Fri 3/13–9am-7pm
Sat 3/14–9am-6pm
Sun 3/15–10am-5pm

March 17 Primary Voting: The Board of Elections recommends that voters double check that their polling location is still open. Some locations may have closed because they also serve vulnerable populations. You can check online, at the Board of Elections website, or call 312-269-7900  (TTY 312-269-0027 for hearing impaired). For Election Day Only, March 17, call Election Central at 312-269-7870, 6 am-8 pm.

All CAPS Meetings have been canceled until further notice.

This is an unprecedented event and I know we can come together as a community to support each other going forward. Our office will continue to be a resource to help residents navigate these challenges.

Yours in Service,

Andre
