Warren Park Improvement Project

The park improvement project will include a new nature area in the southern area of Warren Park, which will feature play areas with wooden logs, a stage, and a landscaped walking path and vine tunnel at the entrance

The athletic upgrades will include four pickleball courts, two volleyball courts, and new baseball and cricket batting cages, as well a renovated cricket field with artificial turf and lighting. The project will also include renovations to the shuffleboard, horseshoe and bocce ball courts.

The bocce ball court will get a new turf surface, and the area surrounding all three courts will be overhauled to be more accessible, Walther said. That includes new accessible seating and pathways around the courts.

Due to funding constraints this project has been broken into two phases.

Phase 1 will include removal of the existing batting cages and restoration of the area with new lawn, as well as the addition of pickleball and volleyball courts on the current asphalt surface. Work will also include repairs to portions of the asphalt pathway, construction of the nature play area, and improvements to the cricket field, including new sod, topsoil, and grading. This phase is anticipated to move forward into construction in 2026. The attached rendering is intended to help illustrate the scope of Phase 1 work.

Phase 2 will focus on adding sports lighting to the cricket field, installing new baseball and cricket practice cages, and renovating the existing gaming courts. The Park District will continue working with the PAC to identify additional funding sources for these improvements. Once funding is secured, this phase will be able to advance to construction.

Construction Updates

Active construction is now underway for Phase I. The old batting cage has been fully demolished, and contractors are mobilizing to begin stormwater utility work. At the same time, the planning team is coordinating with the Department of Natural Resources to advance the nature play area. As part of this effort, the site will be carefully assessed to ensure that construction does not impact any mature trees in the area.
