PUBLIC SAFETY STATEMENT FROM ALDERPERSON VASQUEZ REGARDING FATAL COLLISION ON DAMEN AVE.
The 40th Ward Office was notified that a driver struck and killed a cyclist on the 5100 block of N. Damen last night at approximately 7:45pm. The driver was reportedly speeding and fled the scene before being apprehended by 20th District police. Charges may be filed against the driver pending a completed investigation.

This is a devastating loss for our community. Everyone deserves safe streets, and our office is committed to ensuring that we do everything we can to protect bicyclists and pedestrians in our Ward. We have already been in communication with the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) regarding the implementation of pedestrian and cyclist safety measures in this area and across the Ward, and will continue to follow up with them.
